Abdelkader: this is the first item of the database and refers to the military and religious leader of the Algerians in their 19th century struggle against the French, and founder of the Algerian state.
Initiated on 18th June, 1867, at a specially convened meeting of the Lodge of the Pyramids, Alexandria, Egypt.
His Royal Highness the Duke of Edinburgh: one of the Royal Freemasons listed. He was initiated in Navy Lodge No. 2612 on 5th December, 1952 and rumoured to have joined the Craft to please his father-in-law, H.M .George VI.
Charles Lindbergh: aviator who made the first solo flight across the Atlantic Ocean in his single engine plane “The Spirit of St. Louis” on which he had fixed a Square and Compasses badge.
He was initiated, passed and raised in Keystone Lodge No. 246, St. Louis, in 1926.
Oscar Wilde: Irish wit, poet and dramatist finished his education at Magdalen College, Oxford, where he became an apostle of the doctrine ‘art for arts sake’ . About 1884 he became involved in an unpleasant scandal, as a result of which he was sentenced to two years imprisonment. It was great tragedy that he deviated from the Masonic Line and Rule. He was initiated in Apollo Lodge No. 375, Oxford in 18175 and raised on 25th May the same year.
Robert Falcon Scott: Royal Navy officer and explorer who led the ill-fated second expedition to the South Pole.
He was initiated on 9th April, and passed on 14th May, 1901, in Drury Lane Lodge No. 2127, in London and raised on 22nd June, 1904, in St. Albans Lodge No. 2579, Christchurch, New Zealand. He later affiliated to Navy Lodge.
