One of a set of 6 stamps issued to commemorate the Savoy Operas of Gilbert and Sullivan. Brother Gilbert was initiated in Lodge St. Machar No. 54 S.C. in 1871 and Brother Sullivan in Harmony Lodge No. 255 in Richmond (Surrey) in 1866.
Stamp issued in 1967 to mark the 150th Anniversary of the Erie Canal one of the instigators of which was Brother De Witt Clinton, politician lawyer and Governor of New York. A member of Holland Lodge No. 16 (now No.8) in New York in 1790: Grand Master of the State of New York 1806-19.
Issued by Nicaragua in 1972 to mark the 150th Anniversary of INTERPOL which depicts Sherlock Holmes, created by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Brother Sir Arthur Conan Doyle was initiated in Phoenix Lodge No. 247 in Plymouth in January, passed in February and raised in March, 1887
Stamp issued by South Africa to commemorate the tercentenary of the Dutch Reformed Church and depicts a magnificent pulpit carved by Anton Andreith. He arrived in the Cape as a soldier of the Dutch East India Company and later became a noted sculptor. Whilst in the Cape he was befriended by Louis-Michel Thib, who proposed him into Lodge De Goed Hoep of the G.E.N in 1798.
Example of a ‘d.i.y.’ stamp from Canada. When sold the centre of the stamp was blank, on which the purchaser could stick any design of his own. This example was from a Freemason who used the S & C.
